After working in the corporate industry for over 20 years, I decided to pursue my passion of owning my own business and at the same time, assisting people in my community. So coupled with this and my love for African artwork, I came across an extremely talented bead & wire artist one afternoon and struck up a friendship with him. Together we decided that the world needs to see his amazing ability to create almost anything out of bead & wire. This is where Penny Whistle Bead & Wire was born.
“Hello, my name is Tendai Denzel, I was born in Zimbabwe and raised by my grandparents as my own parents had passed away when I was a baby. There was a group of older guys, where I stayed, making bead & wire art and they starting teaching me how to do this. My first items I made were bracelets, flags and flamingos. I eventually starting selling my work on the streets so I could make some money to buy food for my grandparents and myself and pay for my school fees. When I finished school, I decided to come to South Africa to try and make a better living for myself. I am currently selling my artwork on the streets. This has helped me to provide for my wife and new born son however lockdown has not been easy for us. This is where I met Penny one afternoon and together we decided that the world needs to see this beautiful African artwork. I am so happy we have met as she has helped myself and my family during these uncertain times. I hope you like what you see. Thank you for your support and God bless you all.”
